To Amanda, Erol, Yung, Josh and Chris.. thankyou for the excellent communication and a wonderful new shower. All aspects of the project were carried out to the highest standards and no shortcuts were taken. Very highly recommended 10/10.

Officer is the heart of Melbourne’s South-East growth corridor. While these modern estates offer beautiful contemporary living, the rapid development and local soil conditions often lead to significant building movement.
In newer Officer builds, even minor settlement can cause hairline cracks in waterproofing membranes that weren't installed with enough flexibility or thickness. When the membrane tears, water migrates into the substrate, rotting timber frames and damaging adjoining rooms.
We don't do "patch jobs." We provide the expert diagnostic services required to identify exactly where the original builder fell short and how to fix it for good.
Our inspection confirmed a critical failure in the original waterproofing installation. We found that the waterstop angle—a crucial component required by AS 3740 to prevent water from wicking out of the shower area—was completely missing at the doorway.
Furthermore, the waterproofing membrane had been applied too thinly and had torn due to thermal expansion, allowing water to track under the tiles and saturate the timber stud frame.
The bedding sand-cement mix was holding water like a sponge, keeping the slab wet and causing the moisture to wick up the plasterboard walls in the adjacent hallway.
This confirmed that a simple "reseal" would be useless, as the water was escaping from underneath the tiles, not just through them.

The issue was caused by non-compliant application of the waterproofing membrane during the home's original construction.
The builder failed to install a perimeter waterstop angle, meaning there was no physical barrier preventing sub-tile moisture from escaping the shower zone.
Over time, daily shower use saturated the screed, and without a way to drain effectively, the water migrated into the walls and flooring.
Free quotes and quick resealing jobs don’t uncover the real cause of leaks — they only cover them up. This homeowner could easily have been sold another temporary patch like a regrout or silicone touch-up, which would have trapped moisture and worsened the rot.

We presented two options: a shower-only rebuild or a complete bathroom renovation. Given the extent of the water damage to the plasterboard, the homeowner chose a full bathroom renovation to ensure the home was restored to a safe, compliant standard.

I highly recommend The Shower Man Melbourne. We needed a full bathroom remodel and even during COVID-19 restrictions, the team were highly professional, incredibly responsive, good communicators and worked hard to meet our needs. They were fantastic, and I would not hesitate to use them again.

Professional high quality service from quote to planning to buildout. No short cuts. Very pleased, will hire again in future if I need more bathroom work done.

If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Could not ask for more – all of the team over-performed from start to finish, and completely replaced our tired leaky old shower on time and on budget. I’m recommending The Shower Man to everyone I know.
Across many Melbourne suburbs, homeowners are discovering bubbling paint, swollen skirting boards and water-damaged plaster near their showers — and these symptoms often point to a much bigger problem hiding behind the tiles. Our team rebuilds showers across Melbourne every week, and we continue to find the same critical waterproofing failures causing damage that homeowners cannot see from the outside.
One recent example involved a Porter Davis–built home, where the shower looked fine at first glance. Once opened, however, we uncovered significant hidden damage — the same types of issues we see in many Melbourne homes, regardless of builder or suburb.

Our Professional Diagnostic Inspection uncovers the real cause of leaks, cracks, and waterproofing failures — so you know exactly what needs fixing and why.
✔ A structured assessment of the shower as a complete waterproof system, not just visible finishes
✔ Identification of system-level failure patterns through on-site compliance checking against current waterproofing and construction standards to confirm whether the shower system has failed and reached the end of its service life
✔ Interpretation of how water is behaving beyond the tiled surface based on visible indicators
✔ Targeted moisture meter testing to detect abnormal moisture levels beyond the tiled surface and indicate the extent of water migration
✔ Confirmation of whether damage can be contained within the shower footprint or has extended into surrounding walls, flooring, or structural elements
✔ Determination of whether rectification can be limited to a complete shower rebuild or if broader bathroom works are required to properly resolve the issue
✔ Accurate measurements for planning, logistics, and pricing
✔ Preparation of a fixed-price rebuild or renovation Action Plan and proposal with clearly defined scope and inclusions
Conducted by qualified, police-checked experts — never subcontractors — this is a technical assessment, not a sales visit.
Shower problems often present with similar visible symptoms, but the consequences beneath the surface can vary significantly. What looks minor on the outside can involve damage that extends well beyond the shower area, affecting walls, floors, or structural elements of the bathroom.
This inspection works because it connects what can be seen on the surface with what must be done to resolve the issue properly. Through on-site compliance checking, moisture testing, and system-level assessment, we confirm how the shower has failed and how far the impact extends, so the solution is based on certainty rather than assumption.
By confirming the correct scope upfront, this process avoids trial-and-error fixes, repeated disruption, and the compounding cost of repairs that don’t address the underlying system failure. The outcome is a clear, fixed-price plan sized to the true condition of the bathroom, not an under-scoped repair that needs revisiting later.
Why this level of inspection is uncommon
Accurately confirming the correct outcome requires more than trade skill. It requires the ability to recognise failure patterns, understand concealed water behaviour, and translate that knowledge into a build strategy that permanently resolves the issue. This capability is developed through years of specialising exclusively in failed showers, not through general repair work.
Optional documentation ✔
For clients who require formal written documentation, a detailed defect and compliance report can be provided as an optional add-on. Most homeowners do not need this to proceed with a permanent solution.
This inspection is about removing uncertainty, protecting your home, and ensuring the solution you move forward with is the one that actually works
Our $149 Professional Shower Inspection & Rebuild Planning Visit is designed for homeowners who want certainty and a clear path to a permanent solution. We carry out a thorough, system-level inspection upfront to identify all relevant issues from the beginning, so they are understood and accounted for before work starts, rather than being uncovered later once the bathroom is opened up.
This is a structured, professional inspection that looks at your shower as a complete system.
Showers don’t fail because of one small issue. They fail when the waterproofing breaks down As a Complete System, and once that happens, the outcome is no longer about minor repairs. It becomes a decision about replacement and minimising the long-term risk.
This inspection exists to confirm that decision properly and remove uncertainty before any work begins.
